More new appointments (given peerages so in HoL)👇🏼 Patrick Vallance, former chief scientific adviser during campaign, appointed as science minister. Backed Labour’s clean energy plan. James Timpson, chair of Prison Reform Trust, now prisons minister.

Unpopular opinion of the day: yes, some bits of the State Opening of Parliament seem strange and quite funny BUT those things aren't *just* the result of 'tradition'- they're also the result of/reflect some v important historic events and fundamental constitutional principles!

🌟 Finally: allocation for select committee chairs has been announced, with five going to the Conservatives (of which only two going to departmental committees), three to the LibDems and all the rest to Labour. (1)
