National took power when average mortgage rate was about 5.6%. Latest figure at end April 2025 was 6% (on a bigger pile of mortgages) . Unsurprisingly, Kiwis are paying a lot more interest now than they were in late 2023. National are using figures for *new mortgages only*.

New Zealand MPs simply do not have to promise to uphold Parliament's rules. Maybe they should. But they don't. Could MPs stop please claiming in their speeches they do. (Collins, Rurawhe and Chhour have all made the claim in this debate) MPs also do not have a code of conduct.

This is a stain on Parliament. A vulgar triumph of prissy legalism and historical fabrication over justice and reality. Naked exercise of majoritarian power to punish those who insist that the truth of history is still the truth even if it is not popular rnz.co.nz/news/national/…

Ai is becoming so recognisable i feel like it will eventually give people the same ick they used to get seeing the comic sans font in the wild.

I feel like comic sans was so hated because it was trying to look like human hand writing but it was too clean around the edges.

Wellington's systemic challenges make a bit more sense once you understand that people from this faction have held the mayoralty for 18 of the last 30 years, and a balance of power on council for more than that

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

I subscribe to the notion that buildings like this (or higher) will become increasingly common across all of Auckland's beautiful isthmus. After all, if we can develop buildings to this height at Carrington, then imagine what we might build in more central locations if allowed?
