Let me introduce you to the Anaeramoebae. This was a fun collaboration with Petr Táborský, Eric Salomaki @eme_laura Martin Kolisko, Tomas Panek, Jon Hultqvist,Miluše Hradilová,Čestmír Vlček, Andrew J. Roger (@andrewjroger.bsky.social) Ivan Cepicka. Out now in Current Biology. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
We combined #AlphaFold and #cryoEM to build a new model of the nuclear pore complex, the largest complex in the human cell! The structure covered by the model is 15x bigger than the human ribosome and 2x bigger than old nuclear pore models. 1/7 Read how: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
How often have #eukaryotes transitioned between saline and non-saline habitats? We did #longread #metabarcoding and combined with existing #envseq data to find out! With Fabien Burki @CharlieBiwer @daniel_vaulot A.Obiol Ramon Massana H.Jing @shpeura. Pre-print out biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Now in print, with a new title and more analyses. But the conclusions remain: Picozoa are archeplastids without plastids. Thanks to all the authors for a very enjoyable collaboration, especially Max Emil Schön for leading the analyses nature.com/articles/s4146…
Super excited for sharing the preprint of our NASA funded work on horizontal gene transfer between #viruses and the marvelous algae from the #Symbiodiniaceae family! It was a huge odyssey, and I thank Timothy Stephens and Debashish Bhattacharya for carving this work with me here at Rutgers University
Final version out at Current Biology! A look at how using species whose genomes have been annotated by different tools can affect how many lineage-specific genes there seem to be. (Punch line: you get more, sometimes by a lot.) tinyurl.com/34k6adsb
So pleased to see our paper out today in nature Micro! We compared bacterial microbiomes of microscopic marine invertebrates from 21 phyla! nature.com/articles/s4156… UBC Science UBCBiodiversity Hakai Institute PS let’s make inflatable polychaetes for car dealerships
RT if you’re a PhD student and your salary doesn’t cover your basic needs so you have multiple jobs to make ends meet. I’m so tired of feeling stretched. Academic Chatter™
I will be at #ICML2023 from Tuesday to Saturday and will be presenting our *latest* GNNome Assembly improvements and results at ICML-Compbio-Workshop workshop. A lot has happened since the last year, so make sure to stop by. Or let me know if you just want to chat about AI in genomics!
Our preprint is out! We hacked the Oxford Nanopore sequencer to read amino acids and PTMs along protein strands. This opens up the possibility for barcode sequencing at the protein level for highly multiplexed assays, PTM monitoring, and protein identification! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Absolutely DELIGHTED to see our new paper out in Nature Communications today! nature.com/articles/s4146… We added new transcriptomic data from the early branching dinoflagellates, including a new group of free living heterotrophs, the eleftherids; three MALV-I isolates; and two psammosids!
