Our babies died because of unsafe NHS care, and now we've come together to call for a statutory national public inquiry on maternity safety. #MaternityInquiry

This from Wes Streeting Department of Health and Social Care in response to learning of 9 avoidably dead babies at UHSussex is a joke. 1. I'm nothing to do with Sands 2. All these babies were near-full term so certificates for babies <24 weeks not relevant here Good to know where we stand though!

As one of the many families harmed or bereaved by negligent or neglectful maternity care at Leeds, during Julian Hartley’s tenure, I simply do not have the words for this announcement today….. Maternity Safety Alliance Wes Streeting

Bereaved mums launch action group after failures at Leeds hospitals. “according to law firm Irwin Mitchell, they are hearing from substantial numbers of families who have experienced poor care within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.” yorkshirepost.co.uk/health/bereave…

Harmed families have been saying for a while that there is a problem with some of the law firms or lawyers who act for NHS Resolution. A statutory public inquiry would be able to look into what they are doing Wes Streeting Maternity Safety Alliance

Further evidence of what we and other families failed by Leeds maternity services have been saying for a very long time…. The first graph is hugely alarming ‼️ 👀 🚨

In 2022, Leeds had the highest number of neonatal deaths in the UK, Martha being one. All we kept getting told is ‘ lessons will be learnt and training will be provided’ MBRRACE has published its data for 2023, please tell me what lessons have been learnt?

Maternity Safety Alliance Leeds Teaching Hospitals I wonder how many families might not have needlessly had their lives also ruined if the CQC had actually listened to us and other families in Leeds nearly 5 years ago when we first presented everything to them.

For a trust which says their baby deaths are comparable to those of similar levels, these numbers make absolutely 0 sense. Unless they have chosen to lie to us, the public and media as recently as last month Leeds Teaching Hospitals

The figures in here are very worrying and will strenghten calls for an inquiry: Leeds is being compared with its peers - sites which also take very sick children - and yet its mortality rates are significantly and consistently higher. 1/2

Wes Streeting has said maternity safety keeps him up at night but to date has done nothing to rectify the awful condition of maternity service across England. This is why we need a public inquiry, it’s not local problems, it is across the country /1
