Real-terms public service funding growth of 1.5% per year after 2025/26 isn't particularly generous. That will leave some services with uncomfortably tight budgets. A short-term cash injection, with a promise of belt-tightening in future? I think I've heard that one before...

How £26bn becomes £16bn. The net effect of employer NI increase is much less than appears because it results in lower pay and hence lower income tax and employee NI. In fact knock off another £6bn for compensating public sector employers and the net effect falls to just £10bn.

Higher NICs will be felt be people - mostly workers It will reduce work & increase the tax penalty on employment - that is now worse, meaning more moves to self-employment Since we link pension incentives to employer NICs, that incentive also goes up

Alasdair MacIntyre. RIP to a great moral philosopher, tireless intellect, dangerous wit & restless heart. Reading him changed my life (led to a dissertation & 1st book). Here's an old video I made on him: youtube.com/watch?v=NwuRgs…
