The UK will co-host the replenishment of the The Global Fund this year with South Africa, as they bring the G20 to Africa for the first time. We will work in partnership to strengthen health systems across the world and end AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria by 2030.

The continued advance into DRC of M23 and the Rwandan Defence Forces violates DRC’s sovereignty and is a breach of the UN Charter. Rwanda must withdraw its troops. We need an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue via African-led peace processes.

Today the United Nations Security Council has passed a resolution calling on M23 to cease hostilities in DRC. Rwanda Defence Forces should cease their support for M23 and withdraw from the DRC immediately. DRC and Rwanda must return urgently and without preconditions to diplomatic talks.

The situation in eastern DRC is utterly unacceptable. The DRC’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected.
