I feel strongly that CKM is a valid (sometimes optimal) tx option for kidney failure among the frail or seriously ill. I feel *even stronger* that complex patients and shared decision-making involving CKM are vulnerable to clinician bias related to ageism, racism, and ableism.

Inflexible + inconsistent hospital visitor restrictions cause anguish for patients/families and moral distress for clinicians. Nearly a year in and I still cannot cope with this aspect of the nightmare. Appreciate @releiter for his tireless alchemy of turning rage into advocacy.

Proud of this one, v special to write with the doctors I admire most —Ursula, who inspired me to go into nephrology and Amanda, who inspired me to stay.

COVID restrictions should not be viewed as only beneficial. In this study, nursing home residents without personal contact with family/friends had a 35% greater excess mortality early in the COVID-19 pandemic relative to residents who had personal contact. jamda.com/article/S1525-…

Patients with ESKD access hospice care only about half as often as patients in the general Medicare population. This study introduces a Concurrent Hospice and Dialysis Program that improves hospice access by offering palliative dialysis with hospice care bit.ly/j2022010064

A beautiful story of KidneyPal and the benefit longitudinal relationships to advocate for patients with empathy and humility as they do it their way in a healthcare system that often asks for immediate decisions. Sam Gelfand Steph Kiser Alexis Drutchas, MD (she/her) @VjacksonJackson Naoka Murakami
