One of the volunteer rangers saw a ring ouzel today. This 'mountain blackbird' pass through Samphire Hoe on their autumn and spring migrations.

In recent days, there has been a stunning male blackredstart at the Dover end of the sea wall. Small numbers winter in Kent. As a breeding bird in the UK, they are rarer than golden eagles. Photo by volunteer ranger Clive.

In the winter months, great crested grebes can be seen offshore from Samphire Hoe. They swim underwater searching for fish to eat.

Thanks to everyone who came on our New Years Eve guided walk at Samphire Hoe today. And a special thanks to Volunteer Ranger Marion, who piped us into the start of the walk.

Fieldfares are thrushes that visit for the winter months heading back to North Eastern Europe to breed in the Spring. One was enjoying the sunshine at Samphire Hoe yesterday. #samphirehoe
