Texas Senate Democrats walk out of the chamber as the Senate takes up the redistricting bill

Of all the things on today’s agenda in the Texas Senate, the first bill Republicans brought to the floor isn’t to address flooding. It’s the one to pick voters out for next year’s midterm election. This isn’t why I came to work today. So, I just walked out. #txlege

Republicans refused, even symbolically, to put flood relief ahead of their plan to let politicians choose their voters. I’m heading home to my district where the real work is. If Republicans won’t put my constituents first, I will.

It takes more effort for Abbott to create, post, and air attack ads about Democrats than to simply pick up a pen and send money for flood relief. But that’s not what this is about, is it?

This special session should focus on helping Texans in crisis, not criminalizing women and those who help them. This is about fear & control, not health or safety. Senate Democrats will always fight for all Texans’ dignity & freedom. #txlege

Gov. Greg Abbott had 16 days to use his current authority to send funding to counties impacted by the July 4th floods. He has done it before for OpLonestar. Now that the #txlege has adjourned Sine Die he can send $$ with the stroke of his pen. The clock is ticking.
