Always a pleasure to chat with American Psychiatric Association leaders, rising stars & mentees at #APAAM24! Congrats to Saul Levin, MD, MPA for his decade of inspiring leadership and welcome to new CEO, Dr Marketa Wills, for her vision of the future!

It has been my great honor and the highlight of my career to lead the administration of this great association over the past 11 years. This was truly my dream job!

I am proud and humbled that I have been able to work alongside the talented and dedicated APA leadership, Administration, and countless member volunteers, as we faced challenges together and advanced both the profession and APA.

The Mental Health Care Works campaign from the APAF elevates APA’s and psychiatry’s role as a leader in mental health care to the public.

I am proud to say that the “state of our association is strong! APA’s membership is growing, once again post-COVID, now numbering nearly 39,000 members, our highest in 25 years. #APAAM24

APA membership is also becoming more reflective of our patients and of the deepening diversity of culture and identity in our nation. Whatever our background, we as psychiatrists all share a passion for our work and the health of our patients.

Thanks in part to the efforts of APA advocacy, 100 out of 200 new graduate medical education residency spots were allocated to psychiatry and psychiatry subspecialties, an unprecedented number.

I am happy to report that psychiatry has never been so popular! Can you imagine a 98% rate of 1st day matches even a few years ago?

I am so grateful that APA’s ongoing efforts to promote psychiatry have paid off, and that there is a broader recognition among the public and prospective doctors of the essential role that mental health plays in our overall health and wellbeing. #APAAM24

The annual meeting is a testament to the incredible knowledge, creativity, and enthusiasm of our members. It is especially amazing to see what the early career psychiatrists and medical students here showcasing their work have accomplished so early in their career journey.

It is personally rewarding for me to see so many young people who not only want to join our profession, but are driven to succeed, and really break new ground when they do.

More than anything, my experience with mentorship put me on the path to leadership in this association. My experience with mentorship during my residency bound me to the APA, my District branch, and to the profession, and cemented my love for what we do every day.

Let’s work together through mentorship to help the younger generation to ensure psychiatry’s bright future. #APAAM24

APA can really be a source of lifelong community if you’re willing to take the step to get to know your colleagues. I encourage all our members to take that first step!

In my new role at WPA, I look forward to collaborating on the big issues that affect all psychiatrists and patients the world over, as there is far more that binds us than separates us. We are one world, and one profession after all. #APAAM24

As I begin the next chapter of my career and my life, I know that I have APA and the amazing membership to thank for instilling in me a deep love and passion for our profession and for the mission of the APA.
