Several petals are scattered throughout the book - Richard may have been studying outside, perhaps consulting the book during brief interludes in his games of boules in Mr Grain's garden, the only time he goes out, he tells his father, due to they heavy work load from his tutor!

Fast tide this morning on Sandymount Strand for the National Parks and Wildlife Service BirdWatch Ireland Irish Wetland Bird Survey, the last of the season. The oystercatchers and dunlin almost seemed to be caught out by the speed of the tide, hopping and running in as it came up!

First decent Spring ringing session at Clogheen Marsh, with 46 birds of 13 species. Felt more like Norway than Cork with highlights a Siberian Chiffchaff, an acredula Willow Warbler and a very grey ‘continental’ Robin. Also 5 butterfly species National Parks and Wildlife Service BirdWatch Ireland BTO

Great news from Rathlin Island as the Corncrake has returned! Listen out for the rare “crex crex” call when you’re walking the island. Thanks to volunteers, farmers and our staff for making this possible once again.

An unexpected surprise was coming across this Corncrake, sunning itself in the warmth of the afternoon near Magherorty in Donegal today. Thankfully had just enough battery power to get some shots.

Watched a Kittiwake nest this week at just the right moment to see a chick hatch from the egg - the adult kept shuffling about as the bedraggled wee scrap emerged. Even saw the eggshell being cleared from the nest #SuperSeabirdSunday
