SCANN Lab PhD student Eliany Perez leading a really cool project here, funded by @SRNDNA to examine variability in decision making and spatial navigation behavior in older adults (with and without AD). Also featuring @PeterKvam , @dawnbowersphd, Dr. Natalie Ebner and Adam Barnas

Now out in the Journal of Cognition!! SCANN Lab research led by Adam Barnas! When you see a sign, or look at your GPS, you might be guided by spatial directions, which help show you the way to go. 1/x

I'm developing a new graduate course this semester where we discuss (and apply!) advanced methods in f/MRI. I'm having a lot of fun picking papers, but I'm also assembling a list of imaging resources for novice -> intermediate -> advanced imagers! github.com/smweis/methods…

We are celebrating the UF McKnight Brain Institute 's 25th anniversary as a lab today! Come check the SCANN Lab poster on the 4th floor of the MBI if you want to get to know a little more about us and what we do.

The SCANN Lab bike group is back! It's a bitter sweet end of the semester so far. We're celebrating Chengsi Yi's first year at UF but also taking the time to hang out with Jeff before he leaves us for his own grad school adventure 😢

Would a compass help you learn a large-scale environment better?🧭 What about a mountain range?🏔️ Our results show that this is not the way to enhance spatial memory. See our (my first 🥹) preprint with Steven Weisberg & Zachary Boogaart! osf.io/preprints/psya… SCANN Lab

A commentary in Nature Human Behaviour from @RHeersmink makes the case that using LLMs could impair our ability to think critically and write well. He makes a strong and clear case, analogizing LLMs to GPS/calculators. But I think he misses the opportunity... nature.com/articles/s4156…

Can't recommend Steven Weisberg enough for anyone considering grad school! He's an expert in his field, but more importantly, he genuinely cares about his students' growth. Happy to chat about my experiences working with him—feel free to reach out!

🚨New paper alert🚨 tandfonline.com/eprint/APYG6JX… This one's a bit different! Led by stellar PhD candidate Ashley N. Krause who has taught me more about social psychology than anyone else. First - a question: Is a ship a place?

Steven Weisberg (@stevenmweisberg) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Ashley N. Krause is hard at work developing a dissertation, which will empirically exam these notions of place and place coherence. So stay tuned for some hard data! More examples of things that Steve thinks are places that most other people do not below:

🚨fantastic post doc opportunity here!!🚨 As a bonus, I’m involved in this project and can say it’s a can’t miss opportunity to combine brain imaging, EEG, and spatial navigation with top notch collaborators! Reach out with questions!
