I'm doing a lit rev. Papers using homebrewed Likert scale q's for student interest or motivation. Why not use a validated instrument or open-ended questions? Reminded me of this meme I made many years ago (of course lots of good work out there, but this stuff drives me mad)

What seems like a more dangerous precedent to set? —Prosecuting a former president —Letting a former president avoid accountability for allegedly stealing classified documents and then conspiring to obstruct the government's efforts to retrieve them

And this is why academic publications should not be controlled by businesses whose primary goal is revenue. Note the entire board of Design Studies has resigned in response to Elsevier's actions. DRS will work on a new home for this community.

Children of the top 0.1% are more than twice as likely to be admitted to an elite college as middle-income students with the exact same test scores, as the The New York Times reports. "Meritocracy" is a sham.

Trump’s third indictment is different. Most crimes can’t stop someone from being president. But the 14th Amendment bars elected officials who break their oath by engaging in insurrection from ever taking office again. Even if he’s not convicted, he must not be on the ballot.

The GOP is again trying to overrule the will of voters. Wisconsinites elected state Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz in April. Now Republicans are threatening to impeach her if she rules against their gerrymandered maps. Folks, this is what authoritarianism looks like.

Six far-right extremists who support massive tax breaks for the rich are trying to shut down the government. This is what they want: $14.7B cut to public schools in high poverty areas. 70% cut to nutrition assistance for children. $750M cut to Head Start. Ain't gonna happen.

I had the fortune to preview several chapters of this book while Brian and Lasse were writing. It strikes the perfect balance between covering topics of social complexity and providing enough depth to get a rich understanding. Check it out!

Trump’s second-term would be far more unhinged than the first. He’s already called for the largest deportation in US history, a special prosecutor to “go after” his political opponents, and a purge of anyone in the federal civil service who questions his views. Be warned.

State governments are always going to attack the institutions that can hold them accountable. and my guess is that these states underfund education in general, and likely have for years. it's not complicated.
