Misunderstanding on NIH funded research here. Grant proposals are reviewed by peers. Currently, only 10 out of every 100 proposals are funded, often after multiple resubmissions. Projects need to show strong progress to maintain funding. NIH funding has remained flat for decades.

98% of NIH grants that should have gone out this month, didn't. Despite court orders 'unfreezing' the funds, they are frozen. Biomedical research will grind to a halt. Clinical trials will end. All for no reason: the total impact on the US budget is miniscule

Unsolicited advice to new PIs and my opinion only not fact: As a new Assistant Professor, you have a 1-1.5 year window where you can get an R01 without a corresponding author paper IF you have a high impact 1st author paper from your postdoc. After that, it seems no amount of

Maybe Google or Google DeepMind should fund CASP, given their ample resources and how much they've benefited from the efforts of John Moult, Krzysztof Fidelis, Andriy Kryshtafovych, Nick Grishin, and many others. science.org/content/articl…

Today, NIH announced a new policy to cap how much publishers can charge NIH-supported scientists to make their work publicly accessible. This reflects our broader effort to restore public trust in public health by creating an open, honest, and transparent research atmosphere.

A postdoc position is open in my lab to develop AI/ML models for predicting functional effects of genetic variants and to lead large-scale PheWAS in major biobanks. Strong programming skills, a solid publication record, and a background in human genetics are required.
