Up early for the LRAUV Polaris recovery. This vehicle is a product of MBARI craft and passion for science. We are so thrilled to collaborate and build on this groundbreaking tech. While most #AUVs spend more time out of the water, this 24/7 workhorse goes for 2 weeks.

Stella the #auv is launched for testing bottom mapping accuracy for future benthic surveys in wind farm areas, hard to reach places and anywhere you need to go. We define long range as 2-4 weeks- that’s autonomy!

When you try hard things, they might not always go according to plan. But we learn, we build stretchers out of drift wood and we study the data. Then we innovate and try again. #oceanography #robots

@rickspinradnoaa & NOAA Fisheries NE/MA toured #WHOI engineer amy kukulya's Scibotics LLC yesterday to see the lab's innovations on the MBARI #LRAUV. They're developing a new vehicle for NOAA Fisheries to conduct seafloor habitat surveys at sea scallop and offshore wind sites.

If you think the ocean isn't important, imagine Earth without it. Mars comes to mind. No ocean, no life support system.
