#OnThisDay in 1982 the Kessock Bridge opened. The project was overseen by Ove Arup and Crouch & Hogg and built by Redpath Dorman Long and Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Co. The bridge remains a key part of the trunk road network in the Highlands. #Archives #Scotland

#OnThisDay in 1984 the Kylesku Bridge was opened to traffic by Queen Elizabeth II. The bridge was designed by Ove Arup & Partners and built by Morrison Construction. It has become an icon of the #NC500 and its unique design has seen it win several awards! #Archives #Scotland

The M90 Kinross Bypass opened in December 1971. It was built by Fitzpatrick & Sons. This section of the motorway featured a concrete carriageway, some of which was only recently removed. This photo shows the road shortly before completion, south of Junction 6. #Archives

This week in 1981 the #M77 Dumbreck Road Connection opened to traffic. The last of the "original" #Glasgow motorway schemes, it was designed by Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick and built by Whatlings. It cost £4 million. Here's the view from Nithsdale Avenue in 1982. #Archives

The M90 between Arlary and Bridge of Earn was built in two phases, opening in March 1977 and October 1980. Babtie Shaw & Morton was the main designer and the contractors were Whatlings and Tarmac Construction. #Archives #Scotland

This stunning concrete arch bridge was designed by W.A Fairhurst & Partners and completed in 1965 as part of the A876 Bonnybridge Bypass! It was converted to motorway in 1974. In this photo from 1979, works to extend the motorway to Bowtrees are underway. #Archives #Scotland

Back to the 1990s today with a photo of Claylands Interchange, built as part of the M8 extension to the Edinburgh city bypass. The extension was built by Balfour Beatty and opened in December 1995. Fairhurst and Scott Wilson were involved as designers. #Edinburgh #Archives

#OnThisDay in 1966 the Tay Road Bridge was officially opened to traffic. Designed by William Fairhurst and built by Duncan Logan Ltd, it cost £6 million. Steelwork was supplied by Dorman Long. The bridge is seen here shortly after its completion. #Dundee #Archives
