Our new paper highlights an overlooked (and unregulated!) source of noise in the oceans. Ultrasonic antifouling technology has become increasingly pervasive worldwide, but we have now documented that it can be an acoustic disturbance to marine life.

Fish have a lot to say, and Scripps PhD student Ella Kim is all ears. 📣🐠 Working with the Scripps Acoustic Ecology Lab (Scripps Acoustic Ecology), she's studying fish sounds off the West Coast and analyzing how they're affected by marine heat waves. Meet Ella: scripps.ucsd.edu/news/scripps-s…

Whales have important things to say, so it’s crucial that we listen to them. Scientists and engineers join forces at Scripps Oceanography to study how #whales communicate and move about the world using sound. Let’s learn more about this research for #WorldAnimalDay! 🐳

Meet the night crew! Our collaborator Joe Warren (Joe Warren) and a team of Scripps Acoustic Ecology grad students went nocturnal to collect deep-sea specimens and eDNA at our acoustic monitoring sites. The data they processed will help us better understand the ecology of this region!

New research led by Scripps acoustic ecologist Jennifer Trickey of Scripps Acoustic Ecology revealed ultrasonic antifouling (UA) devices as a new form of noise pollution that threatens the habitats of whales and possibly other marine mammals. Learn more. ⬇️ scripps.ucsd.edu/news/ultrasoni…
