Just tried to explain “mishe mishe”and it’s surprisingly difficult. Somewhere between an exclamation and an invitation to reflect or - quite often - lament. Once common now the preserve of the very elderly.

It’s more “pre-selected candidate on the basis of conformity to prevailing ideological trends / disciplinary fads” in the UK, but the principle still stands!

Is there a non-paywall version of this? The whole idea seems odd. The Norman invasion of Ireland - okay, makes sense to probe that historically. But why would Ireland mark the invasion of England? A misleading headline, I suspect - but would be good to read article.

Good to see some new and interesting ideas emerge regarding the English School last week at BISA. Gives one some hope that there’s life in the old International Society dog yet!

EISA in Bologna is uncommonly stacked with interesting panels. The Working with the Negative and the Realist Thought, Theory, and Analysis sections look particularly good. eisa-net.org/event/pec-2025/

I sometimes amuse myself by thinking where could I afford to live if I worked in a Dublin university. Looks like Carrick-on-Shannon. Maybe Longford?
