An unstable snowpack and increased backcountry use over the holiday weekend will create a unique set-up for potential avalanche accidents. Though most natural avalanche cycles have ended, the snowpack is still unstable. You may still trigger large and destructive avalanches.

2 all night missions are a reminder to have a contingency plan (Spot/inReach/PLB) in place when hiking. Broken legs can be fatal if we can’t find you in our PNW autumn conditions. This photo doesn’t do justice to conditions King County SAR teams endured this week to save 2 lives.

Fellow Outdoor Enthusiasts - In this time of COVID-19, if you get out for some fresh air, follow your local government’s guidelines, the CDC’s recommendations, stay in your local community, avoid locations with other recreationalists, and choose challenges to decrease your risk.

Today we spent the day with Kittitas Co SAR, helping to extract 2 hikers who fell over a large cliff. Special thank to the @MtRescueAssoc's newest member, NAS Whidbey Island SAR, who helped pickup one of our team docs and get these 2 out of the mountains.

A huge win for Search&Rescue teams in WA today. After 8 days lost near Skykomish and Hwy2, Mountain Rescue teams located a missing 18 year old gal ALIVE. Big thanks to Olympic MtnRescue, Tacoma Mtn Rescue and all the King County SAR teams who we worked with this week to find her.

SMR spent last night out past Chikamin on the PCT rescuing Bear, an American Akita, who had fallen down a very steep 300ft rock chute. Amazing sunset, a glorious moon and a wonderful sunrise for all our teams and Akita, who patiently waited on a ledge for us rescue him.

Avalanches in the US have killed 15 people in the last week. That's the highest toll over a 7-day period in more than 100 years. Thank you to our fellow Mountain Rescue teams who went to help. Our thoughts are with everyone who was impacted.

Pass closures are temporarily preventing access to the mountains. Once open, please read the latest NWAC forecast carefully (a few times) to understand our current dangerous avalanche conditions. x.com/WSDOT_East/sta

Completed a rescue on Guye Peak this afternoon. A climber was injured in a nasty fall. Lots of credit to Seattle Mountain Rescue for getting to her quickly and having her ready to go when we arrived.
