A Thai court today denied bail to US academic Paul Chambers - He’s been charged with lese majeste. So Thailand is jailing one of the most respected academics working here. His offence? The blurb for a webinar on military reshuffles posted last year by ISEAS in Singapore.

Paul has denied either writing or posting the blurb. It’s unlikely the Thai prosecutors have any evidence that he did. Neither is it clear what’s offensive in the blurb. It is extraordinary the Thai authorities are using the notorious 112 law in this way. It’s a terrible look.
