New paper! Japan Trench is a dynamic hadal depositional environment, where large amounts of carbon are buried by earthquake-triggered gravity flows. The buried carbon eventually sinks to the subduction zone.

I visited China Ocean University in Qingdao for great scientific exchange and discussions about hadal zone carbon cycle and Japan Trench Paleoseismology with Prof Rui Bao‘ Group (baogeoscience.com )and Prof Yonghang Wang‘s group.

Today we took 7 sediment cores from the lake and reached glacial sediments… We successfully finished field work! Subsequently, #sedimentological and #palaeolimnological analyses will be carried out!!

And we also took water samples along a vertical cross section at the deepest point as well as above the position of each core with a #Schindler #sampler. #UWITEC

Cores from #Hintersteiner #See reveal insights into lake history: from #limnic #sediments to #ice #age #deposits. We also took biol samples from a core, i.e. #diatoms & #eDNA. Great interdisciplinary project of @[email protected], Michi Strasser, BOKU University, #TIWAG & Sinsoma
