Spoke to a teacher the other day who shared with me that Newsround is 'banned' in their school and is labelled as a 'waste of learning time'. In a world where willful ignorance is on the rise in adults, I thought this was shocking. It's so important children know what's going on.

BREAKING: Teachers have been offered a pay rise of 4% next year, with the DfE announcing additional funding of £615 million towards the increase for schools tes.com/magazine/news/…

NEW: General Secretary of the National Education Union Daniel Kebede says the pay award for teachers (4%) is not fully funded and will mean cuts in many schools. Warns that the union will register a dispute with the government unless it is fully funded.

“It’s a partially funded pay award not a fully funded pay award. That means schools will have to make difficult decisions around resources..it’s very difficult to make any cuts in schools at the moment” Daniel Kebede general secretary National Education Union

This years pay and funding settlement: 1) The Government's starting point was 2.8% with £0 of funding. It is a testiment to the pressure from NEU members that we are in a position of 4% pay award for all with £615m of additional funding.

We asked our community to share why symptom awareness is so important to them. Claire is an NHS doctor who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003. She wants everyone to know that knowing the symptoms and sharing them with people is so important 💜

The 4% pay increase is good. Its lack of full funding is not. During 2010/11 there was a trend of pushing out experienced - therefore ‘expensive’ - teachers (unethically) and replacing them with new, ‘cheaper’ teachers due to inadequate funding. We should not accept this.
