Really concerning to see single parents not outlined as a key group in the child poverty strategy document released today despite this letter we sent to the Child Poverty Taskforce recently We'll continue to highlight this oversight alongside other single parent organisations.

🔒 Child Lock: Lasting Change for Children We are calling on the UK government to lock child-related benefits in the Autumn budget to raise them yearly in line with either inflation/average earnings, similar to the State Pension Triple Lock. More info: bit.ly/3UjRqOw

The Government's Child Poverty Strategy has huge potential, but only if those impacted by poverty are involved and all options are on the table. We already know the 2 child limit needs to go. Thanks to Big Issue for shining a light on this. bigissue.com/news/social-ju…

This is a political decision. The government is saying they can't afford it because it's assuming the household limit is double the individual one but they could create a household limit which is fairer for all family types and affordable.

It was a big budget in many ways yesterday, but the rhetoric on welfare reform remains concerning. We don't need increased surveillance, we need a decrease in sanctions and more flexible employment support. Good to speak to Big Issue about this and highlight our concerns.

Great to have the chance to write this piece for Big Issue Single parents need to be seen as a unique group so their needs are met. High poverty rates aren't inevitable but the result of discriminatory and biased policy making.
