On Saturday James Morris OBE visited @dorothy_parkes centre in Smethwick to see the First Folio on its local tour. Good to see the works of Shakespeare being enjoyed across all generations as we mark the 400th anniversary of its publication.

RIP Glenda Jackson, former MP for Hampstead and Highgate, and a great Ophelia, Cleopatra and Lear who only last month wished our group success. Thoughts go to all her family, friends and colleagues.

Great to hear that our event in Speaker’s House got a mention on Today in Parliament on BBC Radio 4. Thank you to Mark D'Arcy for coming along and putting this piece together. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

“One important reason Westminster should take a profound interest in Shakespeare is that Shakespeare himself took a profound interest in Westminster” ✍️ James Morris OBE and Professor Michael Dobson from Shakespeare Institute politicshome.com/thehouse/artic…

Very saddening to hear the news that Prof Maya Harbuzyuk has past away. We all enjoyed her inspiring stories of how Shakespeare’s works had been performed in Ukraine amidst the recent turmoil. She will be missed by many, and our thoughts go to her family and colleagues.

It’s sad to hear of the passing of Sir Michael Gambon, who performed on stage in various Shakespearian plays. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and all those who had the pleasure of working with him.

Our chair James Morris OBE was at Senate House Library at the University of London today, working with @SSF_UK to judge some fantastic entries from schoolchildren in their ‘What You Will’ competition. He even got to see the Durning-Lawrence Library’s copy of the First Folio!

Today is the 400th anniversary of the publication of the #FirstFolio. A great day to remember Shakespeare’s legacy and the generations that his works have inspired.

1/2: The 400th #FirstFolio anniversary got a mention in the King’s Speech Debate yesterday as ⁦⁦James Morris OBE⁩ spoke about the relevance of Shakespeare’s plays in the modern world. The folio’s publication is a foundational moment for our culture.

2/2: As Prof Michael Dobson of Shakespeare Institute has said, Shakespeare “represents humanity in all its plurality”, embodying the best of British culture but allowing other cultures to join in too. His works are a key part of our ‘soft power’.

Primary school children took part in a Henry V-inspired flash mob on the green outside Westminster Abbey this morning, to mark the start of #ShakespeareWeek . Great to see Shakespeare B Trust getting children involved this week with events across the country.

Great discussion yesterday Shakespeare North Playhouse on ‘Why Shakespeare in Education?’, which APPG Chair James Morris OBE took part in. Important that we keep the creativity of Shakespeare in our classrooms.
