Last session of #CL2023 was the launch of this magnificent opus. Sadly, I will be none the wiser as to how 'publikely', a variant of 'publicly' in Shakespeare's time, would have been pronounced, but you can't have it all. Now off to Liverpool to visit old friends so... pub likely

I guess the launch of the first volumes of Encyclopedia of Shakespeare’s Language Project is a good opportunity to mention that one of the long term goals of _this_ project is to undertake a similar project for Tolkien. The Tolkien Glossary project is the starting point. More information soon.

Wonderful news about this publication! It comes after 25 years of preparation, a £1 million AHRC grant, a team of up to 25 researchers, and seven years of hard work. The project was conceived and led by Professor Jonathan Culpeper of Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster Uni. tinyurl.com/4h8zcs9j

25 years of preparation, 25 researchers, and seven years of hard work, and we finally know: dinner happens at midday (according to Shakespeare, anyway). Inevitably, a thread ⬇️ 1/5
