Yesterday, Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS and The ACS Committee on Trauma Chair KerbyJD 🟧 represented the ACS at an event at the White House that focused on the key role health leaders play in addressing the public health crisis of firearm violence.

Action is needed to address the epidemic of gun violence. Members of our ThisIsOurLane campaign were at the The White House today with healthcare professionals, the @whogvp46, and partners like Doctors for America to discuss how we can fight gun violence using a public health approach.

#transparency in compensation, job descriptions, career paths, and all processes.

#redundancy describe full time position, part time position and variations therein - and hire enough to not just barely fill, but allow life needs and changes between them. Build solo and private/group practices with collaborative contracts, protection elements + boundaries.

#expertise we are not all interchangeable technicians, administrators, researchers, educators - hone your skills based on satisfaction & opportunity - then market yourself and find where YOU are the special and needed part. You DESERVE to be recruited and valued.

#evolve avoid stagnation through education and pursuing opportunities that expand skills, perceptions, and horizons. For you - and those in your influence

#advocate only you understand your needs & goals - create your own and pursue them. Speak on behalf of yourself, but remember all surgeons must unite to keep the profession strong and patient outcomes at the center. A shortage is looming and only we can fill the pipeline
