Today was harvest day! We gathered our final set of data for this growth cycle, and then got to enjoy the fruits of our labor! ⁦Growing Beyond EarthⓇ⁩

Today was a fun day of modeling the molecules involved in cellular respiration with marshmallows and jelly beans.

My sixth graders did an awesome job making clay models of Florida’s KOE Watershed. We are so grateful to the ⁦The Everglades Foundation⁩ for their brilliant Everglades Literacy Curriculum. ⁦EvergladesEducation⁩

On Tuesday we started our 2nd trial experiment for ⁦Growing Beyond EarthⓇ⁩. Our team of space farmers is so excited to see their plants grow and determine if staggered companion plant can yield greater biomass of edible plant mass for astronauts.

Our class enjoyed an amazing presentation from ⁦Mariela Pajuelo⁩, coordinated by ⁦@UFEarthSystems⁩, who taught us about the threats and conservation efforts of sea turtles, and helped us brainstorm ways as Everglades Champions ⁦The Everglades Foundation⁩ that we can help!

Today we saw all kinds of fantastical marine life while snorkeling in the Coral Reefs at MarineLab- a green sea turtle, squid, hogfish, parrotfish, snapper, and best of all a Caribbean Reef Shark! ⁦Derek Schuemann⁩ ⁦⁩ ⁦Barrett Jellie⁩ ⁦

It was a lovely exhibition presenting our civic action projects to reduce plastic waste produced in the SDPBC. These kids did great and I can’t wait for our first plastic free lunch day at TCS, Monday, in honor of Earth Day! 🌎

Plastic Free Lunch Day at TCS was a huge success! ⁦Lumarid Burgos⁩ ⁦Derek Schuemann⁩ we have to keep doing our part and using less plastic and styrofoam in our school cafeterias. Today was testament that we can do it!
