I’d like to take this ugly old cotoneaster bush down off my wall, but right now there are 50-70 ‘bees’ on there, and at least 7 different species. My favourite is the Red-tailed bumble bee. Bombus lapidarus. Alongside Bombus terrestris and Bombus lucorum🤗

Under my SFI agreement which runs until 2028, I get payed to not mow or graze these meadows for 10 weeks. I couldn’t be happier than to spot 4 curlew chicks through my binoculars earlier. Sword is a perfect hight for cover First clutch were eaten by jackdaws.

For one week each year, usually coincides with the longest days. Peony week. The antithesis of December 21 st and short days.

These peonies have an amazing old rose scent, but I’m not sure there’s a way into the nectar for this butterfly. The more open flowered one does offer pollen to the bees at least.

Just watched parents and three chicks through binoculars. Trying my best to avoid disturbance as I don’t want them to head into the surrounding fields that are all being cut for second or third crop silage.
