So many great sessions & super smart scholars at the American Political History Conference at Vanderbilt University! It was amazing to join yesterday’s panel on the “Cultural Histories of Election Years.” Thoughtful lessons from 1796/1800, 1856, 1912, 1960, and 1980.

Medgar Evers, who fought in #DDay and was the NAACP field secretary for Mississippi, was assassinated outside of his home hours after JFK's civil rights address in the early morning of June 12, 1963. People wrote to JFK about his speech and their anger at Evers' murder.
