“No bailout” for Healthscope. Good call. The Aust Govt is not the insurer of last resort for private hospitals (Covid notwithstanding). afr.com/companies/heal…

This is why coward’s castle exists. First rule of any media adviser: don’t say it in the street. Pesutto - barring some (unlikely) white knight intervention - is screwed. theguardian.com/australia-news…

A #superfund is a retirement savings vehicle - not a tax shelter for whole-of-life assets. The 15% rate is a specific policy concession - extended by taxpayers - to encourage an after work income. If it's being used to hide vast assets from normal tax, it's being abused. Simples.

For obvious reasons, since 1948 the State of Israel has been extended VERY significant “wriggle room” where human rights are concerned. Esp Germany, but also USA and most western countries. Netanyahu and his band of nasty ideologues have burnt this capital theguardian.com/politics/2025/…

This spiral into abject capitulation is black comedy. Our parliament is about to become a base circus and ⁦Anthony Albanese⁩ will be its untouchable ringmaster. #spoilsofdefeat theguardian.com/australia-news…

Regrettably for @Healthscope (and other private hosp operators) the market for such services has not fully recovered post covid. A lot of capital has been invested at a time when the public (esp young people) found/discovered a very viable public system. smh.com.au/business/compa…

“Though inflation has since eased, many of these pressures remain. Health workforce retention is still a major concern. Medical out-of-pocket costs continue to rise. And the public remains sceptical about the value of private healthcare.” Spot on. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

For 20 years priv hosps were a reliable "river of gold" for investors (just ask Ramsay). Then came the disruption in the form of Covid, increased day surgery and whopping OOPs. @Healthscope was unable to cope and PHI was, rightly, unwilling to pay. abc.net.au/news/2025-05-2…

Shhhh. Don't tell the rest of the country. They think it's a hell-hole (despite, if they're lucky, having been here only once - invariably a Yr 6 school trip in August). canberratimes.com.au/story/8977445/…

Interesting contribution from someone who knows the deal. ⁦Healthscope⁩ has created its own problems, no doubt - but the evolving nature of hosp care (esp more day care) has shaken the model. PHI premiums should be more market based but that needs improved competition.

Elon is backing up the truck. His petulence has been catastrophic for his companies and their shareholders. In any ordinary company, the duty of directors would be clear. How close was/is he to being sacked as CEO? ://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/07/trump-musk-x-posts-feud.html
