And Jessie Allen completes the quadfecta of Shaw Lab defenses for the semester! Congratulations to the newly minted Dr Jessie Allen, who successfully defended her dissertation this afternoon.

My postdoc mentor Jim Travis told the lab he’d dye his hair blue when he published 100 papers. He followed through when he hit 300. We published our 100th paper this week, so in honor of Jim, who died this year, I let Jess and Jack loose with some hair dye. They had big fun.

Doing a PhD is - at heart - one long discussion with your mentor. The discussion changes over time - with unexpected turns and ups & downs - but through it all is a pair of people discussing a topic endlessly to make sense of it. PhD students: choose someone you like to talk to!

Had my first work trip since COVID last week - got to visit this guy in NYC! Thanks for the invite Victor J. Torres - we had a blast. And congratulations @sophiedyzenhaus on an outstanding PhD defense!
