#日本古生物学会 海外から2名の魚類化石研究者 Shiori Kanno @gozdddddd が参加。なんとセッションの発表5題中4題が魚類化石!こんなことが起こるのもオンライン学会ならではかもしれません。

Global FinPrint Global Biodiversity Festival It may be the middle of the night, but it will be Saturday afternoon in Australia. I'll be talking live from Orpheus Island on the Great Barrier Reef about sharks (including stingrays and sawfish) that use mangrove forests. Orpheus Island Research Station - JCU Shiori Kanno Ana Barbosa Martins Havenworth Coastal Conservation

Great to be back at Orpheus Island Research Station - JCU to continue our #sharkresearch. Shiori Kanno is investigating the links between sharks and mangroves. We were greeted by baby blacktip reef sharks herding bait fish on the beach. James Cook Uni Aliya Siddiqi Kristin Hoel OceaniaSharks

It may be #StingraySaturday here in Australia, but somewhere it is still #FlatSharkFriday and here is what I saw on my morning snorkel at Orpheus Island Research Station - JCU - a porcupine ray hanging in the mangrove roots. James Cook Uni @spinnershark7 Aliya Siddiqi Kristin Hoel Shiori Kanno

Great to hear Colin Simpfendorfer talking about his work for #GlobalBioFest on how mangroves appear to be very important habitat in the life history for some threatened sharks and rays. Protection of mangroves necessary to help rebuild populations.

Deep in the mangroves at Orpheus Island Research Station - JCU sit a series of Innovasea acoustic receivers. They have been waiting to be visited by sharks and rays fitted with acoustic tags. Now that we have completed a download we can say that it has been a great success. IMOS Animal Tracking #sharkscience

For #flatsharkfriday here is a mangrove whipray in the mangrove roots at Orpheus Island on the Great Barrier Reef during our fieldtrip to Orpheus Island Research Station - JCU last week. Shiori Kanno Aliya Siddiqi Kristin Hoel James Cook Uni @CSTFA_JCU

It is just about a wrap on fieldwork for Shiori Kanno PhD project. Tracking elasmos in the mangroves at Orpheus Island Research Station - JCU. All data downloaded and ready for analysis. Snorkelled today and spied on a few of her subjects - cowtail ray and mangrove whipray. #sharkscience #hooray4rays James Cook Uni

Taryn Murray icft2023 And I have the one at the opposite end - second to last on Friday. If you stay awake you will get to hear about all the great work by Ana Barbosa Martins Lachlan George @VishesFishes Shiori Kanno and others at Orpheus Island Research Station - JCU on the #GBR. Can't wait to get to Sete!!! icft2023

Hurtling through France on the way to Sète and icft2023 reviewing my talk. Excited to see all of my fishing tracking friends again. It has been too long! IMOS Animal Tracking Shiori Kanno Jordan Matley Rob Harcourt Fabrice Jaine Charlie Huveneers

🚨 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗣𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗥 🚨 Out earlier this month in Marine Ecology Progress Series (MEPS) 👇 A new review paper led by Shiori Kanno on the use of #mangroves by #sharks and #rays 🦈🌴 You can read the full paper here ➡️ int-res.com/articles/meps2… #sharkscience

Can you track #sharks and rays in dense mangrove forests using acoustic receivers? Shiori Kanno has the answer in a new paper. And the answer is YES!! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jf… #sharkscience #trackingnotslacking Innovasea OceaniaSharks IMOS Animal Tracking Integrated Marine Observing System Elasmobranch Society

ICYMI Shiori Kanno is testing the limits of acoustic telemetry by measuring their performance and range in a mangrove habitat. Turns out they're still effective even in these dense, vegetated environments. Check out the full study here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jf… #sharkscience

For #WorldMangrovesDay a reminder that some sharks and rays love to spend time in mangroves. You can read more in our review led by Shiori Kanno in Marine Ecology Progress Series (MEPS) int-res.com/abstracts/meps…
