Panel 3 of our conference “What Next for Syria: Options, Opportunities & Challenges,” is now under way. A superb line up is discussing “the jihadist future and foreign fighters”, including Mina Al-Lami, Orwa Ajjoub | عُروة, & Jerome Drevon, chaired by Rym Momtaz ريم ممتاز (rmomtaz.bsky.social).

An audible cheer went up as day 1 of our Johanna Inness conference on Syria ended and this news broke. Absolutely historic moment, and a real opportunity for Syria to start down the long road of recovery.

The fact all this is happening during the second day of our Johanna Inness conference on Syria has injected a real sense of excitement and discussion during breakouts between the panels.

Another capacity audience for day 2, now listening to our panel on “disinformation, online campaigns, and the role of Arab media,” with Gareth Browne, Fadah Jassem and Razan Rashidi, chaired by Dania Akkad.

Big congrats to everyone at Johanna Inness. Easily the best conference related to Syria I’ve ever attended from the quality of all the speakers and panels to the excellent and engaged crowd. Hopefully, something like this can be done in Syria soon too.

📢 Exciting news! Johanna Inness and Centre for Grand Strategy have merged to form a new hub within War Studies King's College London: the Centre for Statecraft & National Security (Centre for Statecraft & National Security) ➡️You can find more information here: csns.uk

Big announcement here. Congrats to Alexander Meleagrou-Hitchens & Johanna Inness for taking this forward over the last year.
