Trans, non-binary, and gender variant people have always existed and will always continue to exist. Their presence in film, in front of and behind the camera, can be traced all the way back to the early 1900s. 🧵

The films we see most are adapted from books, previous movies or real-life events. Streamers have pushed this further, building entire slates around true stories and familiar IP. Theatres have followed, leaning on sequels to guarantee returns.
