Nice explainer of our recent UNSW Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences work to cobble together hybrid motors for baxterial swimming. Also great to chat to New Scientist! newscientist.com/article/245232…

New work out in eLife - the journal! Possibly the last one in our series on bacterial aggregation behaviours on polysaccharides. We knew cells were engaging in collective behaviours. But how do they know when to leave and why? We provide potential answers in this work elifesciences.org/articles/93855

Our work on motility genes in the human oral microbiota is now published in Microbiology Spectrum. This started as an undergraduate research project of the fantastic 1st author Sofia Rocha and it motivated her to continue as a PhD student 😊 journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/sp…

Emma Henderson, a 4th year PhD student from our lab gave a cool talk about a paper that we are currently writing..proud PI moment here 😊 #blastmeeting2025 BLAST Meetings

Ever heard of Zorbs? 🌀Dr. Jitendrapuri Gosai from Dr. Abhishek Shrivastava's lab at Arizona State University live at #BLASTMeeting2025, revealing a unique sensory switch that controls these motile biofilms in gliding bacteria. #BacterialMovement #Microbiology

Motile bacterial zorbs demonstrate one of the most fascinating collective migration strategies I have ever encountered. Our lab's postdoc, Jitendra Gosai Jitendra Gosai, gave an excellent talk on the sensory control of zorbs at the BLAST conference BLAST Meetings #blastmeeting2025

My PhD student, Emma Henderson, received the Howard C. Berg Award for an outstanding talk on motility by a young investigator at the BLAST meeting BLAST Meetings #proudpi #blastmeeting2025 ASU School of Life Sciences Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University

Congrats to Emma Henderson for receiving the Howard C. Berg Award for an Outstanding Talk on Motility! 🏆🎉 Emma (Abhishek Shrivastava (he/him/his), Arizona State University) 📄 Read the preprint: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… #blastmeeting2025 #motility

📢Excited to share our new paper in Nature Physics : Cooperative hydrodynamics accompany multicellular-like colonial organization in the unicellular ciliate Stentor! How do single-celled organisms benefit from teamwork? Let’s dive in! #Multicellularity nature.com/articles/s4156…?

Congratulations to our 2nd year PhD student Samyabrata Sen for winning a Poster Award for Innovation in Environmental Solutions Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University annual retreat 👏🥳🎊

Happy to share that a study led by Dhara Shah and our joint PhD student Pavani Dadi, where multiple neuromodulatory compounds are reported to be produced by an evolved enzyme from the gut microbe Bacteroides fragilis is now online cell.com/iscience/fullt…
