This week is volunteer week! While we have a couple volunteers in sorting out our most vital tasks, safe to say we miss having folks in to help dearly. There is time for the hustle and bustle to return, but for now just know we are thinking of you all.

Our other little Volunteer Week post is a good one! We have brought back some volunteers to work on council records - welcome home. We've got em working hard already, and its good to have some more faces back. Slowly but surely we're getting stuff done here.

The building is looking really quite shiny and new here - but what is everyone doing standing round looking at this loose slab? We suspect a little time capsule was popped under there... [PH/S/13/C/8/132, 150]

While we celebrate having a day for everything, this one is the most important - Happy International Archives day! A time to reflect on just how much you love looking at our parish registers mayhaps? Look at all the boxes your fav archive produced last week.

Enormous shelves or tiny Alison? What if we were to tell you it was both! Thanks to the hard work of fitters, we have some finished new shelves to show you in store 3, with a good natured Alison for scale - makes them look impressive. We're already planning how best to use them.

We're here to motivate you this Monday with some satisfying moving progress - these bays are full and organised and up to date, and we are chuffed with how it's going. We've started the next one, and we've been sending Stu down the aisle with a trolley...

Don't forget Off the Shelf tomorrow, 2pm! Join John Parkinson, local researcher and genealogist, to explore the 1921 United Kingdom Census, which was the first taken after World War I. This Census is particularly iconic, with its amusing quirks, and its relevance to Shropshire.

There's nothing to complete an outfit like a yellow hard hat - here we have folks examining some bits and bobs before the building gets finished. Good to see you never stop enjoying being too tall for small spaces... [PH/S/13/C/8/-]

Shropshire Archives and Shropshire Libraries are working with FindMyPast and the British Newspaper Archive to digitise local newspapers. They will be fully searchable via their websites, making newspapers more accessible to researchers online. For info: orlo.uk/BHDdv

On this day in 1914 - King George V visits Shrewsbury! July is always a time for monarchs appearing and boy were the crowds of people ready for it. [LP/133-4]

You see those lovely ladies in the background? They are Mary², two of our lovely volunteers. They are responsible for the gorgeously satisfying packaging in front of you, and that was only a small section!

On this day in 1949: The crowds are watching mounted police escorting a procession for The Royal Show along Pride Hill. Presumably this was for Princess Elizabeth's visit! [PH/S/14/20/385]
