At @CSEIndia’s training on Carbon Accounting, Dheeraj Alshetty & Shruthi Srinivasan Iyer shared how Surat’s #ETS balances economic growth & pollution control. They also explored how ETS drives a big-data revolution, unlocking #CEMS’s potential & its #AI-powered future in compliance prediction.

A first-of-its-kind market for cleaner air. In Surat, Gujarat’s emissions trading scheme for particulate pollution cut industrial emissions by 20–30% with no significant rise in costs. Evaluated by J-PAL & UChicago EPIC India . Read via The Indian Express : j-p.al/w4z

Join us at the UChicago Delhi Center as we unpack how satellite monitoring and estimations from landfills can plug data gaps, and aid in improving landfill management and reducing methane emissions from urban waste.

Joined the UChicago EPIC India team for a roundtable with the Environment Minister today to discuss C&D dust, air quality monitoring, landfill methane & vehicle emissions - challenges our researchers are decoding to deliver cost-effective, scalable solutions for Delhi’s cleaner future.

If you’re excited about data, environmental regulation and pollution management, come join Kaushik Deb Dheeraj Alshetty and I at UChicago EPIC India to work with Rajasthan on designing emission markets for cleaner air.

Thank you, Swagata Dey , for steering the brilliant chat yesterday. Grateful to Women in Air Quality in South Asia for hosting us and making space for these important conversations. Shout-out to Dheeraj Alshetty for insights from leading the SOx market design efforts. Kaushik Deb UChicago EPIC India Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth

On #WorldEnvDay2025, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board & Dept of Env & Climate Change, Govt of Maharashtra launched India’s 1st Emissions Trading Scheme for SO₂ (#ETSSO2) — a bold, market-based step towards cleaner air. UChicago EPIC India & J-PAL South Asia are proud to be research partners in this milestone.

From our experience having interacted with Star Rating Program and more extensively the ETS for SO2, Dheeraj Alshetty and I make a case for why environmental regulation should pivot towards treating pollution abatement as an asset to the firms, to encourage innovation in compliance.

UChicago EPIC India's ED, Kaushik Deb and our team met with Siddhesh R Kadam, Chairman of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, to discuss India’s first SO₂ #EmissionsTradingScheme in Maharashtra– a bold step towards cleaner air through market-based solutions. Excited to support this transformative journey!

Recently, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board held a QA/QC workshop on CEMS data for #ETSMaharashtra with 376+ participants. Experts, including Dr. Suresh Kumar Sadasivan, Sanjeev Kanchan, Dr. Dheeraj Alshetty & Dr. Motghare stressed data integrity, tamper-proof transfer & capacity building. #AirQuality

#HSYT? Children spend 6–8 hrs a day in classrooms. A new study by Society for Indoor Environment across 11 Indian cities finds most classrooms exceed World Health Organization (WHO) air quality limits. Clean air isn’t optional — it’s key to well-being & academic success More: societyforindoorenvironment.org/report-in-heal…
