We had a great week wrapping up our mangrove mapping and monitoring workshop. The workshop focused on guiding the classification of mangroves for reporting forums such as REDD+, blue carbon, and greenhouse gas inventory. GFOI FAO Forestry Open Foris


Three officers of #LaoPDR Forestry Dept finished a 6-week internship at ADPC #SERVIR Southeast to advance forest fire monitoring following a decree by Lao PDR PM on combatting forest encroachment & controlling forest fire. SilvaCarbonGlobal received a Google Impact Award for our work building capacity in countries to use earth observations data for forest monitoring. Google Earth Engine has been a fantastic partner for Silvacarbon, helping us multiply our impact in tropical countries.

Thanks to INAB Guatemala and the Guatemala Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to host our team. Satellite information is an excellent tool but technical expertise is the key for successful monitoring of forest fires.









This week in Vanuatu! Food and Agriculture Organization - SEPAL, SilvaCarbon and the Vanuatu Department of Forest are looking at the use of satellite information for monitoring land cover change, and the consequential carbon emissions.



Silvacarbon and SERVIR Global are hosting the first meeting for a coordination group in Latin America. Peru, Guatemala, Ecuador, Belize, Paraguay and Colombia in a dialog with members of academia, USGS, GFOI and USFS to improve forest monitoring in their region.
