New preprint from the lab led my talented postdoc Isabel Wassing! She discovered that CDCA7's unique zf-4CXXC_R1 domain acts as a novel hemi-methylated DNA binding module to recruit the nucleosome remodeler HELLS and help DNA methylation! Check out her tutorial!

We have an exciting new venue and programme that includes keynote Rebecca Heald, panelists/discussion leaders so far including Karen Miga, Gary Karpen, Simona Giunta, Jessica Fellmeth, Patrick Heun and Bradley French (Novartis, formerly Aaron Straight lab). More to follow!

The Giunta Lab is hiring!!! 🧬🔬🧪 Several ERC-funded positions open starting Sept. 24 on our CentroFun project to learn more about human #DNA More info here: sites.google.com/uniroma1.it/gi… Email me or join us in sunny Rome next week at the #HUGO24 Sapienza Università di Roma Pls RT ❣️

Dear community, we are very happy to announce the next Giin webinar!! Don't miss it on Tuesday, April 9th, from 5PM Rome (11AM NYC), with Stephen Jackson Steve Jackson Lab and Simona Giunta Simona Giunta. Zoom link: uniroma1.zoom.us/j/95149984403

Wonderful science&time with the whole Giunta Lab at Human Genome Meeting 2024 in our very own Sapienza Università di Roma Italy. Still to come, poster presentations from the lab + my talk tomorrow Wednesday at 2.30 PM (Main auditorium). Join us! #HGM24 #HUGO2024 #HumanReferenceGenomes

On this note, Chromosoma Editors @BungoAkiyoshi Simona Giunta Tatsuo Fukagawa have something *BIG*, something collaborative and something special cooking with #centromere experts! Tic Toc Tic Toc, stay tuned! (Clues: #Chromosoma circa 1985)

La legge sugli appalti ha causato una situazione insistenibile! Gli acquisti concernenti la ricerca scientifica dovrebbero essere esenti da burocrazia (e poi magari anche dall'IVA, come nel resto del mondo!). Per favore, firmate l'appello e condividete associazionelucacoscioni.it/landing/la-ric…

Like astronauts exploring a planet, no stone is left unturned in the Giunta Lab when it comes to human DNA 🧬Our computational simulations show that centromere sequences are intrinsically prone to complex and unstable secondary structures correlated with chromosome missegregation

Phenomenonal talks at the #ESHG2025 this year! Can't wait to share our new data - now in press - from the Giunta Lab tomorrow morning, so stay tuned! 🧬 Great to have such a large international conference at home 🇮🇹 the perfect science/weather/people/food combo! European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG)

Very proud of my University Sapienza Università di Roma for a series of interventions for Palestine, Ukraine, students & professors in war zones, including fellowships and ad hoc positions. Please reach out to me personally if you are an eligible candidate✌️ ☮️ 🧬 (uniroma1.it/sites/default/…)

Just to add that our University Hospital Policlinico Umberto I hosting childhood cancer patients from Gaza & other war zones, also kids needing complex prosthetics interventions. In a world that lost it, proud to be part of an institution showing our #Humanity uniroma1.it/it/notizia/arr…

🚨 Hot off the press!!! Wanted to share this to celebrate the momentous achievement from the Giunta Lab and for the human centromere / genomics communities as a whole... more posts to come next week but for now, happy Fourth & happy reading ❤️🧬💻 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
