Dear doctors, It’s too much work for us to process your overtime before Christmas, so you’re not getting at the time of year that you probably need it most. Tough shit, Payroll PS we’ll be taking 2 weeks off over Christmas so we’ll respond in January #twofingerstodoctors

391 AUS visas issued to IRL doctors in 2020-21, up from 332 the year before! Doctor emigration is still an issue for the IRL medical workforce and health system. Where's the policy response? #DrRetention Hospital Doctor Retention and Motivation Project bit.ly/3IyxHCv

A reminder that 'ruthful' - 'compassionate' - exists alongside 'ruthless'. We can be feckful as well as feckless, and placable, wieldy, ept, couth, kempt, ruly, sipid, and full of 'gorm' (care and attention). Let's bring back the lost positives.

Why Perioperative Care? Perioperative care should improve patient experience and quality of care, reduce risk, reduce length of stay, improve quality of life and reduce the per capita cost of health care. Perioperative care follows a patient throughout their full journey.

Me taking my only friend, the ultrasound scanner, round the wards providing the cannulation service I always dreamt of when I chose anaesthetics.

Day one in Nyabondo was a great success. Visiting the new trauma centre and getting stuck in with theory and practical skills, it was a day full of activity and enthusiasm!

A highlight of Day 1 was our visit to the new Major Trauma Centre, now in its final stages of construction. It will boast an emergency department, ICU, theatres and CT/MRI imaging. The new hospital will make an enormous difference to the people of Nyabondo and surrounding regions

Day 2 at Nyabondo! We consolidated the learning on trauma management, moving on to more complex scenarios and covering paediatric and maternal trauma. The energy and motivation of the participants never ceases to amaze and inspire.
