Way back when! 77 years ago, June 8, 1948, SFFR battled a large fire at the A. Y. McDonald Supply Store near 5th and Phillips. The fire was started by a cigarette that was tossed carelessly into a boxcar behind the store and was extinguished in just over 11 hours. #WeAreSFFR

SFFR had the opportunity to host an Operational Readiness Exercise for South Dakota Task Force 1 this week. Rescue Technicians from Sioux Falls, Rapid City Fire Dept, Aberdeen, Watertown, Vermillion, and Yankton Fire Departments all participated in the 2 day Exercise.

Today, SFFR’s Honor Guard stood with fellow firefighters to honor Captain Nicholas Van Dam of Murdo, SD. He dedicated 8 years of service - 6 as Captain - to the Murdo Volunteer FD. We stand united in honoring a life of service and sacrifice. Rest in peace, Captain Van Dam.
