Recently the keynote speaker at the Cajon Valley “Welcome Back” gave a speech to the teachers that focused on racism as an individual issue vs a systemic issue. This is problematic. At one point he actually said, “You can be racially offensive and not be a racist.”

My students started the year with identity work. Now that we have built trust as a community, we revisited this work in the form of identity portraits. Students are revealing more about their values, cultures and complex 4th and 5th grade identities. I’m so proud.

We started our new GLAD unit learning about plant and animal structures. Students wrote what they noticed and wondered on observation charts. Learning is fun!

Today we bid farewell to Mr Adrian 😭 We will miss him, but we are so proud & excited for his future! The entire school showed up to cheer him on as the principal Christine Sphar pushed him along the parade route in a homemade float ❤️ CajonValleyUSD #family
