Congratulations to our comrades at NHLC United!

Could not be prouder of my colleagues and comrades National Homelessness Law Center for taking this historic step forward together in unison. Excited to announce our #unionpower membership with Workers United! 👏🏼🎉

Come check out our webinar about the intersections of disability justice & criminalization of homelessness on 9/28! 🔗 to register below. National Homelessness Law Center Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law

Truth, End Homelessness. "Caring about people experiencing homelessness" is about seeing and TREATING them as human beings instead of as outcasts unworthy of acknowledgment and ♥️. Too often, way too many of us forget this.

TOMORROW: "What the Grants Pass Decision Means for People with Disabilities," a discussion with Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund and Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, featuring NHLC staff attorney Siya Hegde Register here: dredf-org.zoom.us/webinar/regist…

I’m so grateful to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her collaboration on Social Housing! The HOMES Act mirrors our NY Social Housing Development Authority bill that we introduced with Senator Cordell Cleare this past session. Together, we can guarantee everyone in the U.S. has a safe, cute, affordable home!

How can we solve homelessness? "This admin must redirect funds and resources from carceral responses and prioritize access to affordable, safe, inclusive housing with compassionate voluntary support services." -Siya Hegde NHLC Attorney testifying at the White House yesterday.

"To combat the criminalization of homelessness and poverty, our movement calls for an urgent, federal anti-criminalization agenda with racial equity and anti-discrimination mandates at the forefront of advancing the human right to housing." - Siya Hegde #HousingNotHandcuffs

The tenets we must enforce under international human rights law are sacred. Without them, we are no democracy. ⬇️ Calling The White House for a federal anti-criminalization agenda w/racial equity & anti-discrimination mandates, and pushing a human right to #housing. Today at a rally & press conference calling on Mayor Eric Adams to follow the law and fully implement #CityFHEPS, a campaign of our Homelessness Union’s work to #EndHomelessness, member-leader Pamela Stephens spoke publicly for the first time.

Mayor Eric Adams TODAY IN NYC: Join us along with Safety Net Project of the Urban Justice Center and Urban Justice Center for a rally against the Adams admin’s cruel sweeps practices in Washington Square Park (on the West side) at 4 PM EST.

Read our full statement on today's historic lawsuit. Eric Adams must stop the sweeps and focus on housing, not handcuffs. A huge shoutout to National Homelessness Law Center's own Siya Hegde and the entire Safety Net Project of the Urban Justice Center team!

This is a big deal. Super proud of my colleague Siya Hegde and our partners at Urban Justice Center for leading the charge. #HousingNotHandcuffs
