InSAR data (thanks Adriano Nobile) of the first part of the Iceland intrusion (until 6 July) shows a linear deformation signal between Keilir & Litli-Hrútur (from arrow), indicating movement of a fracture that the magma appears to have used as pathway to the surface yesterday

Visiting an isolated island GPS station we installed in North Iceland in 2018 and has run without hiccups. This major puffin colony has thousands of small nesting holes on the surface, making it hard to walk around. The puffins are mostly gone in mid-August.

This was the view yesterday morning from our living room window in Iceland. Tragic to see houses consumed by lava later that day, but the good news this morning is much reduced eruptive activity.

Excited about our new Science Adv. paper on burst-overlap interferometry along the entire Dead Sea fault (DSF), settling slip rate debates on the northern DSF: it moves slower than the rest of the DSF, good news for western Syria. Congrats to Xing Li! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Excellent #EGU24 conference in Vienna last week! Great talks, many interesting posters, fun social activities with friends and colleagues, an award to Yann Klinger, successful CDI presentations - I already look forward to #EGU25!

"Fewer major earthquakes for the northern Dead Sea Fault" - #KAUST Discovery Magazine just highlighted Xing Li's recent Science Advances paper with this piece discovery.kaust.edu.sa/en/article/243… and a very nice graphic of the Dead Sea Fault

Great to see our Nature Comm. paper out on off-fault damage: It extends further than previously reported, correlates with fault geometrical complexities, and has implications for slip-rate estimates from geomorphology KAUST PSE Jihong Liu Yann Klinger nature.com/articles/s4146…

Great to be back at the EGU conference in Vienna! Here is Alejandra busy presenting about the most significant earthquake swarm in North Iceland in almost 50 years!
