The left picture that Alex Rogers posted is actually a screenshot from our SnapperGPS app. We draw a circle (radius = uncertainty) for each fix on a map powered by Leaflet, OpenStreetMap, and Mapbox.

And that's a wrap for our SnapperGPS deployments on incubating Manx Shearwaters. Here's a sneak-peek of the data. Now onto monitoring the chick-rearing period. Thanks to everyone in the Oxford Navigation Group who made this possible!

Uploaded a preprint on our open-source wildlife tracking hardware SnapperGPS to arXiv yesterday📜 We describe some design choices that aim at 🔋very low energy consumption, ⚖️low weight, 💲low costs, and 👱good usability. Here's a summary thread🧵 (1/12)

Throwback to last year's loggerhead sea turtle tagging on Cape Verde with FMB - Maio Biodiversity Foundation. SnapperGPS is #Tech4Wildlife! 🐢

Beautiful new SnapperGPS turtle housing from Amanda Matthes. This one will be used to trial inductive surfacing detection.

We accidentally made the SnapperGPS PCB match the #GOSH2022 colour scheme.

.SnapperGPS just got certified as ⚙️open source hardware⚙️ by the Open Source Hardware Association OSHWA (Open Source Hardware Association) Check out why it takes more than uploading your schematics to GitHub to be considered open-source hardware on their website👉oshwa.org/sharing-best-p…

Testing SnapperGPS with different low-cost GPS antennas - still, the results are looking 🔥🔥🔥

Check out this magical video of a turtle carrying a SnapperGPS tag out on the reef. Looking forward to that data! Thanks to Joana Hancock and her colleagues at Olive Ridley Project for making this possible. video by Denis Moser/Olive Ridley Project

We are going to show SnapperGPS at the Open Hardware Summit Open Hardware Summit in NYC in April 👋 2023.oshwa.org Wanna know what to expect? We will likely bring... (1/6)

Wanna read more about SnapperGPS? Check out our paper that the Journal of Open Hardware published earlier this month 📜 openhardware.metajnl.com/articles/10.53… Joint work with Amanda Matthes & Alex Rogers ofc! Testing 2023 ocean tech SnapperGPS alongside 1863 steam boat tech (HMS Warrior) here in Portsmouth at Arribada Initiative's office. That's 160 years later! WILDLABS Community

I am excited to see this article, which I wrote with Amanda Matthes & GOSH member Pen-Yuan Hsing, published! We discuss the importance of open source hardware for ecology & conservation, including examples such as SnapperGPS, OpenFlexure, OpenCTD & more 🌿
