Been thinking about the difference between the science of reading and "pop SOR," so going to re-up this January post about some worrying trends in literacy instruction, and some thoughts on how to adjust course. tinyurl.com/54j479d3

Teachers, this is the BEST literacy/cognitive science podcast you're not listening to yet. Elana constantly pushes her guests to translate their research and ideas to classroom practice. Do yourself a favor and listen to the Season 3 this summer.

Here is a fantastic spelling blog from Daniel Kliger substack.com/home/post/p-15… After reading this I realized I needed to add a quick daily spelling dictation to my skills block. It has helped my Ss immensely. Previously, my Ss learned the suffix -ure and the sound ture makes.

I wanna see more classroom teachers delivering keynotes, facilitating workshops, and given space and larger platforms to talk about what’s working/not working with students in this moment. Too many educator conferences, not nearly enough current teacher voices and experiences.

Every time I watch teachers teach rich content lessons about topics like the Indus River or pollinators or Ray Charles, I think to myself, "I could never do their jobs because I don't know anything about those subjects" It's really hard to build student knowledge about a topic

Things Elana has done this year (that I know of): 1. Exited 25+ students (!) from intervention ✅ 2. Led a successful Walk to Read model ✅ 3. Hosted an incredible literacy podcast ✅ 4. Started her Ph.D at a prestigious program ✅ 5. Presented at various conferences ✅

I'm super excited to share an alternative to literacy centers that I use in my classroom. Most teachers I know can't work any harder, so we need to find ways to work smarter.
