Fishing crews are the cornerstone of the seafood supply chain. Flag states must fulfill their obligations under UNCLOS and ILO 188 to ensure decent working conditions. The WCPFC has the opportunity to lead, adopting a binding Crew Labour Standards CMM at next week’s meeting.

Lives depend on transparency. A binding CMM must prioritize robust reporting and accountability to protect crew welfare and ensure safer working environments at sea. Urge WCPFC members to adopt a binding Crew Labor Standards CMM that includes mandatory safety reporting measures.
