#CafeScientifique - during recovery - the #patientvoice - Can I go outside? Drive my car? Return to work? What is safe? What can I expect? So much uncertainty and anxiety. Unfractionated heparin should be rare in pulmonary embolism! Why? 1) It takes too long to get it right 2) Inappropriate anticoagulation = worse outcomes 3) Most patients don't need a procedure 4) Heparin rarely delays procedures HT Geoff Barnes Christopher Kabrhel The PERT Consortium® #acc19

"In the past 50 years we have made impressive improvement in our ability to diagnose DVT and PE. However we have made little progress in the treatment of massive PE." Most people staying home aren't doing so out of fear; they're trying to avoid becoming coronavirus vectors that could sicken and kill vulnerable others. Going out to bars and restaurants isn't "brave," it's selfish, the moral equivalent of deliberately coughing in someone's face

I am extremely impressed by Dr. Deena Hinshaw Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health, and the Alberta response to #covid. My wife, a medical student, was called O/N to help with contact tracing. South Korea is an example of how test and trace can work. This needs to be to be considered across provinces.

And this article provides a great example of the kind of community spirit that we need to get through this—a spirit that we can hopefully learn to instill more of into our lives, workplaces, civic institutions, and government once the crisis has passed. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…
