Okay, captions please! This was the nose landing gear of XB259 being offloaded yesterday, with five museum volunteers 'assisting' the Lawson's driver.

The away team had to get the manuals out again to figure out how to remove the engine mounts from XB259. This has turned out to be necessary to reduce the overall size of the wings for transport.

Homemade tools for the win! All 4 of XB259's engine mounts are off 💪🏼. Clive Wilson will be bringing those across for us tomorrow, and as soon as we know about transport for the wings, we'll update you.

Clive’s loaded with the engine nacelles for Blackburn Beverley XB259 and should now be on the road, routing M62, A1, A66, M6, A698.

A momentous moment. The last sections of XB259 - the main wing sections - are currently loading up at Fort Paull for transport to our museum. The plan is for them to depart early tomorrow (0500 🤞), so they should be with us late morning (following the 'mostly motorway' route).

I suppose, after the wings arrive today, we'll have to start planning for our grand XB259 opening event! Who's volunteering for crowd control?

6 months on exactly and all of XB259's parts are now in Cumbria following today's arrival of the wings. It's been a challenging & sometimes frustrating move, but now we can start the restoration work. Well done & thank you to everyone involved (we'll do a separate post on that!).

70 years ago today! On 4th August 1954 English Electric's P1 S/N WG760 had its maiden flight at Boscombe Down, powered by two non-afterburning Sapphire engines. Within 5 years the refined design emerged as the Lightning F1, now powered by afterburning Avons. Image credit: BAES
