Very sad to see all these negative comments posted on social media about the French in relation to a creperie at Omaha beach. I have only found the local people to be very accommodating, grateful for our presence and happy to help. I’ve met so many french people over the years

A bit different to my usual postings but finally checked on all my equipment today ahead of Normandy in 2 weeks. I’ll be representing a nurse of the 3rd Auxiliary Surgical Unit, att. to the US 1st Army. #dday #normandy #ww2 #reenactment #dday80

A pair of Thiepval sunsets, taken about a week back on the same night. The colours of the skies at the moment are superb. #ww1 #somme #battlefields

Fantastic visit to Château Colombieres to see the US Medical Services re-enactment and lovely to see my daughter Poppy Mercier who is one of those doing such great work there this week. Ken Cooke enjoyed his Jeep ride! #DDay80

Still reflecting on my time in Normandy for #DDay80. My favourite photo, taken by Paul Reed, of my partner Andy, Ken Cooke (a veteran of the Green Howards) and myself. It was an honour to spend my week educating and commemorating the medical unit we portrayed. #ww2 #normandy

Two more of my favourite photos from Normandy - the first showing me at my supplies tent, the second with my fiancée at the Liberation Dance in Angoville. Normandy was a week of memory making. It really taught me a lot. #ww2 #normandy #dday #dday80

He's finally home. On July 1, an unknown Newfoundland soldier was reinterred at the National War Memorial in St. John’s. To mark his return, a Government of Canada delegation honoured the service and legacy of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. #NLMemorial100

Contrasts in stone: Portland (left) compared with Botticino (right). The uniform texture and granularity of Portland ensures it weathers to a soft appearance with time. Botticino has a more beige tone, is ‘marble’ like and has a ‘veined’ texture that is problematic with age. 1.

Then & now of the Chateau Colombiere, Hiesville. The chateau became the location for the first allied hospital on french soil in 1944. It was run by the 326 Airborne Med Co. (101 Airborne). Modern photo from our display their back in June. #ww2 #dday #dday80

There are 2 million Parisians, and I have still not found one who would be happy to talk about the 1944 Liberation on WW2TV. I want to include the voices and experiences of French historians and experts, but it is soooooo hard
